By installing a wall paneling, you will give your interior a chalet feel and immediately create a cozy atmosphere. The insulating and decorative qualities of the paneling make it a very popular material, which finds its place in all rooms.

Installing wall paneling: surface preparation

First, make sure the surface is healthy, clean, dry and level. If not, seal the cracks with plaster and sand with a fine-grained abrasive. Dust, then wipe with a damp sponge. Let it dry. Disassemble sockets and switches, taking care to have cut the electricity beforehand. Choose the direction in which you will lay the paneling. If you choose a vertical installation, which makes the room appear higher, you will install the frame horizontally. As for horizontal installation, it gives the impression of a larger, but lower part, and is carried out on a vertical framework.

Installing wall paneling: installing the battens

With the frame installation, the paneling is fixed on wooden battens, spaced 40 to 60 cm apart. This type of installation offers the possibility of inserting an insulating material between the wall and the wooden boards, and allows good air circulation. Check with a plumb line the correct verticality of the support. If this is not the case, plan small shims to slide between the wall and the cleats. These must be perpendicular to the direction in which the boards will be laid. Place the first and last battens 5 cm from the floor, the ceiling and the edges.

The installation of the paneling

You have two options for installing the paneling: the most common lost cut is to start by laying an entire board from an angle and continuing with the installation. The fall of the last blade forms the first slat of the second row. The laying in stone cut, meanwhile, consists in putting in line the joints of the panels of the paneling in every other row. It imposes many cuts. The panels are fixed by nailing, stapling or clipping on the cleats.
